Day 3

Nov 21st(Wednesday)

Woke up @ 6:25am and wanted to leave as early as possible for Chitkul but was not feeling well, had bad headache and there was weakness in the body. Then I realized that I have got fever, felt like somebody took the life out of me. Now how did this happen?? Well, it was all my mistake. The temperature that night was 0 degrees and could very well have fallen below. Though I covered my body well, used all the available quilts but forgot to cover my head. So this must be the reason but Thank God! I carried medicines with me. I asked the hotel staff for breakfast, they served Aloo-parantha(the worst I ever had) and tea. Took only a couple of bites, then took the medicine and decided to rest for a couple of hours.

7:00am, Mom called, she was surprised to know that I was awake so early. She could sense from my voice as I spoke that there was something wrong, though I tried hiding it but I knew it won't work, has never worked in the past, she always catches me. So, I informed her about my condition and that I have taken the medicine, will rest now and will only continue when I feel better.

Woke up @ 9:45am, fever was gone, though weakness was still there. Me(thinking), if I don't visit Chitkul today and return back from Sangla, I'll regret it so bad that I'll have to plan another trip to Chitkul very soon. I have traveled this far, I'm just 24 kms short of my destination, a place I have dreamt to visit for so long. I cant just quit here, the only way is the way ahead, so @10:20am headed towards Chitkul. Tried informing mom dad but now there was no signal in the phone.

My room @ Dev Bhoomi G.H.

                                                               Dev Bhoomi G.H.

The route from Sangla to Chitkul is so divine, so beautiful, those are 24 kms of bliss. You experience beautiful mountains, pine trees, apple orchards, cherry blossoms, green meadows, water crossings, the view of Sangla valley and river baspa on your right. You just don't wish those 24 kms to end. For a moment, I thought I have entered into some fantasy world, everything seemed so wonderful and peaceful.

Reached Chitkul @ 11:35am, roamed around for sometime. There is a temple and a Buddhist monastery, found them to be closed. I was looking for a spot, where I can just sit and relax, enjoy the beauty around me, sitting admist the lap of nature. Well, you will find plenty of such spots there and it was hard for me to decide where to actually lay my bum at. So finally went down the hill at the shore of river Baspa. Those were definitely some of the best moments of my life, sitting on the shore, hearing the sound of waves and watching them splash on rocks. With awe-inspiring views of the valley around me. Then after half an hour or so, the headache hit me again and my breathing got heavy too, felt like its AMS(Acute mountain sickness). So @1:00pm decided to head back.

Some pics I clicked that day, these are bad pics, they dont justify the beauty of that place. I was not a good photographer then, I am not a good photographer now, I'm still learning but I have improved. I'll be showing some better pics in my next travelogue.

Chitkul Village, River Baspa and the main temple@ Chitkul

Reached Sangla @ 2:00pm, I was fully recovered by then, thanks to the bright sunlight which kept me warm. Rode continuously and reached Rampur around 5:00pm. I wasn't tired, so decided to keep riding. I knew that roads ahead are great, there is less chance of a flat tire, if anything goes wrong, I have more chances of getting help and Solan is about 5 hours away and if I can continue with this pace I can reach Solan around 10:00-10:30pm. After Rampur, took a tea break, somewhere before Shimla. Finally reached Solan @ 10:50pm.
